The Journey of Hope

My name is Edward Khaoya; the director and the chief Executive officer of Kitale Family House of Hope. I was born on 18th September 1971 as a last-born son of the Late Mr. Jocktan and Late Mama Elizabeth Khaoya at Luhya Village Kamukuywa Scheme plot number 455.

My parents moved to Big tree farm where they worked as casual laborers and lived as squatters. I was raised in a very poor family. In those days, we could only afford three meals a week. Despite my academic potential, the dream of high school seemed unreachable due to the lack of school fees, causing me to retake my Class Eight exam three times.

My journey took a remarkable turn in 1991, thanks to my elder brother, Mr. Musekese, who supported my enrollment at Kitale Day Secondary School. It was during my high school years that I discovered my faith and received a calling to become a pastor. Today, I proudly serve as an ordained minister with the Association of Vineyard Churches in Kenya, overseeing churches in the North Rift region.

I've never stopped pursuing knowledge and self-improvement as Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" I hold a Diploma in Theological Studies, a bachelor's in education, and a Master's in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi. Currently, I'm on the path to completing my Doctorate in Project Planning and Management at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

During my Master's program, I conducted a groundbreaking study titled "Factors that influence the influx of street children in Trans-Nzoia County" which has become a valuable resource for academics and stakeholders worldwide working to reduce the number of street children.

My life experiences, both the challenges and successes, have driven me to make a meaningful impact on communities. I am the Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kitale Family House of Hope, where we operate a rescue center for orphans and vulnerable children. To date, we've rescued, rehabilitated, and reintegrated over 3,000 young mothers, with 2,300 of them gaining technical skills in computers, beauty, hairdressing, tailoring and dressmaking. We've empowered 1,300 individuals with sewing machines to help them earn a decent livelihood.

Through House of Hope Ministries, we reach out to over 2,000 starving families annually in Trans-Nzoia, Bungoma, Turkana, and Marakwet counties, providing food and other essential support. For a decade, we've organized medical camps focusing on anti-jigger campaigns, cancer screening, and treatment of communicable diseases in Trans-Nzoia County. Each year, we touch the lives of more than 3,200 individuals who may otherwise have had limited access to medical care, leading to improved community health.

Our efforts extend to education through the Kitale Family House of Hope Academy schools, where we've positively impacted over 10,000 children who might have otherwise missed out on formal education. We're committed to paying the school fees for over 200 children in high schools across the country every year and supporting at least 50 in universities and middle-level colleges. We have a new tertiary school program through House of Hope college that is open to all members of the community.

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of my wife, Nancy Naliaka Khaoya, and my daughters. Their love and dedication have been an immense blessing on this extraordinary journey. I would also like to thank our partners, the neighbors aid community, Global development group and all other donors and volunteers. Together, we are making a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals and communities.
